This beautiful sub-alpine lake is tucked under glacier-clad Mt. Duckabush high in the Upper Duckabush River Valley. It was named for the endemic Olympic marmot that live only in the sub-alpine regions of the Olympic Mountains. They are best known to hikers for their piercing whistle. Because of the heavy winter snows, These burrowing members of the squirrel family may hibernates up to eight months of the year.
